Because I know that days with the trailer for all of us, are numbered, I am feeling very nostalgic this morning. I wrote a list of some of my favorite memories/things about the lake house.... because everytime I walk in this place they all come flooding back to me. I very well could've written a list that never ends... but that would be a really time consuming read. So I am keeping it to only 20. Which was hard. They are in no particular order. Here goes...
20. The short walk into town. especially to brookies at 7am to sit and enjoy the goodness of the Original and the sound of the river.
19. The retaining wall that Grandpa built in front of the trailer. He told me that he built it so we could have an easier way to get out of the water. Toughtful! Sweet grandpa... This place is a constant reminder of how much they love all of us.
18. Memories of playing sardines during the summer before the house was built and everyone would come at once. I even slept a few nights in the kitchen.
17. Crisp autumn mornings on the porch with tea in hand.
16. Watching diapered kids in those cute tiny life jackets playing in the lake with their cousin for the first time, as I'm sure I did once.
15.Fishing with shorty
14. This summer of friends and cousins. We havn't had that in a LONG time. I loved it.
13. I fell in love with Queen and Steve Miller Band in the master bedroom here one summer. I remember trying to memorize words to the songs..."I want to ride my bicycle I want to ride my bike...I want to ride it where I like." I'm sure back then those lyrics seemed very logical to me.
12. Jumping off the Boat house. These days I more so enjoy watching Jonny do it. Peter pan is my personal favorite.
11. Watching the eagles in the winter. I dunno, there is just something about watching our Nations bird tare the intestines out of a dead deer carcus that just make me proud! But seriously, other than that, I do enjoy watching them.... I kept praying that deer would wash down the shore already!
10. The arts festival...especially the live music part of it.
9. LAAAATTTEEE night bon fires.
8. The fridge, the dishwasher and the washer dryer have never changed... and although they may not work like they used to...or at all, I'm glad they're still here. It would be weird to walk into a super vintage trailer and NOT have a mustard yellow fridge in your face! I love it.
7. The smell of bigfork. Especially in the spring and summer.
6. Living right next door to the parents.
5. Getting dressed up and being in the 4th of July parade. Especially the Ashley part of all that. You know what I'm talkin bout!
4. 4th of July. All the family, great food, and beautiful fireworks. I would NEVER want to be anywhere else. I've tried it and it's lame.
3. Sunsets. I once had a dream that I wrote Garth Brooks a letter about the sunsets here...He got the letter and came to bigfork to see if it was really as good as I had said.... and he ended up writing a song about them. Thats how good they are.
2.The smell of the trailer. I'm not talking about when the septic tank backs up, which is always a treat to the inhabitants. The smell of memories from every summer of my life.
1. The best view on the lake. I'm sure there are others that think the same about their family spots... but I dont think there are any with this killer location and the breath-taking sunsets.
Don't try making a list of your own unless you're in the mood to shed a few tears. Like I said, the list could go on forever.... I'll always love the memories I have here... I can't imagine life without the lake.... Whats that saying,"let go, let God"?
