Day 4-Road to Hana

Today we took the amazing road to Hana. You drive at about 15-25 MPH for 65ish miles around the coast and through a rainforest! OH. MAAAAAAN! It was SO amazing! I know my pictures wont do justice to the beauty that is constant on the highway. And most of this was from the car! We will hike more in the coming years. It takes 2 to 3 hours each way just for the driving. But it was SO worth it, and I plan on always making the drive when we come! It reminded me So much of a tropical version of Glacier. The narrow winding road and tons of waterfalls. We stopped at a one of the many road side stands on the way home to buy some weird fresh fruit. A lot of the stands go by the honor system and just have money box out in front. I wonder how well they actually do?

Probably some of the most beautiful farmland ever! Taro farm.

This is all one tree... the thinner parts are the roots that actually grow down from the branches!

A traditonal hut at the Haleakala National Park.

Thre beginings of the Seven pools in the HNP also. James up there gettin in to one of the upper pools.

This is the church where Charles Lindbergh is buried. It was in the middle of nowhere in the jungle. Totally run down on the outside...and had kind of a creepy vibe. I kept waiting for the horror movie to begin. But the cemetary was amazing.

The 2 head stones on the very left in all the black rock is Mr. and Mrs. Pryor. They are the ones who persuaded Lindburgh to take a trip to Maui in hope he too would move there. It took only one and he was smitten. See the 6 small graves under the bush on the right? Those are the graves of the Pryors 6 monkeys. No joke. They were like children to the Pryors. Kippy was the favorite.
"Well, hello, Charles"
This is a big portion of the cemetary.

James friend Lewis let us borrow a book called Maui revealed. We read through all the places we were wanting to go to one the Hana Highway to see if we would miss anything. In the section on Mr. Lindburgh's grave it tells you to walk out the back of the cemetary into a park behind the church, and then go to the very back right corner of the fence for a good view...here is that amazing view! I know this might seem blah...but in person...it was breathtaking!

On the way back out to Kihei, we stopped at the Hana cultural center. These signs were very informative and hilarious because they end with really messed up stuff! ha ha

This is basically a primative garage. So James of coarse had to go look around. I think the garage is his natural habitat.
Wainapanapa State Park black beach. Really beautiful.

A few rainforest shots.

This one is a little out of order.
That was just a scratch on the surface of things to do on the highway!
